Mahmood Al-Wahaibi is a highly accomplished urban planner with a wealth of experience and expertise in the field. He is the Co-founder of Oman Think Urban, Managing Director of Ruwi Group, and a founding Board member of Future City Council based in Canada.
As someone who hails from an urban tribe in the historic city of Muscat, Oman, his passion for urban planning runs deep. He has gained valuable insights from his exposure to over 27 nations around the world and his research publications focus on Oman's urban history, traditional planning practices, planning policies, governance, and post-oil economy.
Academically, He has received many awards, such as the Karl B. Lohmann Award for Departmental Excellence at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2018, and is a visiting Professor at the GUtech in Oman, making him one of the youngest professors in Urban & Regional Planning.
Professionally, he holds several certifications such as LEED GA, IBDL International Certified Coach, APA Certification, and Illinois leadership certificate, and has worked with international and local organizations at different managerial levels, which puts him among the few accredited Omani planning experts at a young age. He was also a core team member at the Oman National Spatial Strategy (ONSS) and Five-year Development Plan, leading the infrastructure & Energy team and reviewing national and regional strategies.
Mahmood Al-Wahaibi is a highly esteemed planning professional, recognized for his expertise at a young age. He holds the distinction of being the youngest recognized Omani Professor in the field of Urban Planning and is a trailblazer in the use of Ethnographic Planning Methods in the Middle East.
