3. [Regulation] EU Water Pollutants Directive Enters Into Force — PFAS, Microplastics & Pharmaceuticals Now Regulated

   EU Directive 2026/805 entered into force May 11, expanding EU water law to include 25 PFAS (including ultra-short-chain TFA), pharmaceuticals, bisphenols, microplastics, and antimicrobial resistance markers across the Water Framework, Groundwater, and EQS Directives. This is the most consequential European water regulation for filtration in a generation. The ECHA PFAS restriction consultation remains open through May 25.
